If you have a concern about your Wyze camera making a clicking sound, rest assured because this is normal and won't affect your device.
The clicking sound comes from the ICR (Infrared Cutfilter Removal), which is a small film moving between the camera lens and the sensor. This filter improves the camera's color during the day by filtering infrared light, and during the night, it is removed to adjust the camera's light sensitivity.
Take a look at the image below that illustrates this concept.
On daytime, the light comes through the lens, and the IR filter cuts the wavelength that is not ample for the camera, but the camera needs more light during the night, so the filter is removed, thus making the clicking sound.
There are different ways to cut the non-desired wavelength, and I talk about then on my article "What is ICR" but to wrap it up, best cameras with the night-vision feature use the infrared cutfilter just like the Wyze cam.
So that's good news, right? You are using a small and inexpensive camera that uses the best technology available out there. 😉
Check the camera night vision mode
I suggest you turn the camera night vision mode on and off to hear the clicking sound when the infrared filter is moving back and forth in front of the sensor.
Follow the steps below to enable the night vision feature.
- Click the "gear" icon on the right top.
- Click "Advanced Settings."
- Turn the night vision on.
Get close to the camera and start playing with the night vision mode if you are close enough, you will notice the camera is making noise.
I recommended you to leave the night mode on "Auto" if you want your camera to benefit from this feature. If you forget the mode "ON" the camera stays in night vision all the time and stays black and white.
Conclusion
Now you know the Wyze camera clicking sound is not something that must concern you. The sound is just part of the camera feature.
If the camera keeps making this sound even with night vision mode off, please visit the Wyze cam website and ask for help.
