Hikvision Data Transmission Error (Solved)

In this article, I explain how to fix the Hikvision Data Transmission Error.

You probably experienced this error if you are using a Hikvision app, such as the Hik-connect or iVMS-4500, to view your camera and recorders remotely.

Let's take a look at more details...

What causes the Data Transmission Error

The "Data Transmission Error" is related to a network connection problem that prevents the iVMS-4500 or Hik-Connect app to communicate with the devices.

Hikvision data transmission error

This error, most of the time, shows up when your smartphone has a poor connection to the Internet, especially if you are using cellular data communication.

The problem also could be related to the local network instability, which prevents the IP camera, DVR, or NVR from communicating with the Internet.

How to fix the Data Transmission Error

You can temporarily fix the data transmission error on the Hikvision app with simple procedures, but is also recommended to work on a permanent solution.

Let's take a look at the solutions for this error.

Temporary solution

Here are some actions you can take to fix the problem temporarily.

  • Turn off/on the Internet data connection;
  • Reload the Hikvision App (close/open);
  • Connect your smartphone to a different network;
  • Restart the local router (where the devices are connected);
  • Re-install de app.

Those are simple steps that help the app to re-establish connection to the devices.

Sometimes your smartphone tries to connect to the closest Wi-Fi network because you've been to the place before, and the credentials are in the device's memory. Still, perhaps the Wi-Fi signal is not strong enough and causes Internet instability.

I had this problem before with my Xfinity connection because my smartphone tries to connect to the closest Wi-Fi hotspot, leading to the data transmission error.

I could solve the problem by turning the smartphone Wi-Fi connection off, so the Internet's connection was established via the cellular data network.

Reload or re-install the app also helps because sometimes a problem with memory or a software glitch makes the app unstable.

Permanent solution

If you don't want to see the Hikvision data transmission error anymore, it's necessary to invest some time (and perhaps money) on a permanent solution.

By permanent solution, I mean you can view videos from your cameras most of the time without interruption by the annoying error message.

No solution works 100% of the time, but you can get closer to that.

Here's how to work on a permanent solution for the data transmission error.

  • Make your local Internet (where the devices are located) stable;
  • Use UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) on your local network;
  • Install a professional Internet router on your local network;
  • Use the best Internet service available in your area;
  • Install the latest version of the Hik-Connect app;
  • Always connect your smartphone to a stable network.

If your local Internet is not stable, you will always have some data transmission error because the camera or recorder can lose connection to the Internet.

You can invest in a professional UPS to keep your router, IP cameras, DVRs, and NVRs working all the time, even if there's a power outage.

Keep the app updated is also important to avoid software glitches.

Conclusion

To fix the Hikvision Data Transmission Error is necessary to identify the root of the problem, and it's usually related to a poor network connection on some "hiccups".
