The quick answer to this question is, Yes, the Hikvision cameras are ONVIF compatible, but on the new models, you need to check if the protocol is enabled.
On Hikvision cameras with a firmware version of 5.5.0 or higher, you must enable the ONVIF protocol in the camera settings as shown in the picture below,

You also need to create an "ONVIF user" and use the credentials in the software, recorder, or platform that you intend to connect to the Hikvision camera.
