In this article, I explain how to reset a Honeywell DVR to the factory default settings. You can recover from a lost password in less than 5 minutes.
The reset button is inside a small hole that is located close to the alarm connector (dry contacts) in the back part of the DVR as shown in the picture below.
This process was tested with the Honeywell HRSD8 and HRSD16 DVRs.
Here's the step-by-step process:
1. Turn off the DVR
2. Turn on the DVR
3. Wait for the DVR front LEDs to blink
4. Insert a paper clip into the reset hole until you here a clic
5. Hold the paper clip into this position for 10 to 15s
6. Release the paper clip
The DVR is now on factory default mode and you can use admin/123456 as the username and password to log in to the device
IMPORTANT: Make sure you get the timing right. You need to turn off/on and wait for the moment the LEDs are blinking during the bootup process.
All the previous configuration is lost and you have to set up the DVR again.
